1872 ARTWORK – No. 1 The Worlds Most Expensive Perfume

The opening of the second Madison luxury perfumery was a completely special event.
Victoria Christian, the daughter of Clive Christian, came to Bucharest to launch exclusively in Europe the most expensive perfume in the world. “1872 Artwork-No.1 The Worlds Most Expensive Perfume”.
This perfume is a tribute to the year Queen Victoria put her mark on the perfumery, and became the official perfumery of The British Royal House. For the two versions of the perfume, for women and for men, a special ingredient was chosen, so that this perfume could express the unique personality of the fragrances. 1872 for Women wears the scent of Rose de Mai, the famous Rosa Centefolia or “the Grasse rose”, a common ingredient used to make the most expensive perfumes, such as “Joy” of Jean Patou.
The heart of the 1872 for Men lies Clary Sage (or the grass of Saint Joan) considered a holy plant and known for its powerful and strength giving quality.
The emperor Nero used to send his soldiers to war only after sprinkling drops of this plant on them, and as a sign of victory, he always wore the image of the Roman eagle, symbol of nobility.
Victoria Christian is the first daughter of the British designer Clive Christian and her love towards perfumes began in her early years, when alongside her father discovered in their house in England a green bottle, dating from the 1800. The bottle was ennobled by Queen Victoria in 1872, loved by the British aristocracy. Regarding this event, Victoria Christian answered some questions for us.
Reporter:Which is the difference between a common perfume, that of a fashion house and a luxurious one?
Victoria Christian: The difference stands in the first place in the composition. The fashion houses usually have Eau de toilette,Eau de Cologne or Eau de Perfume and in rarely pure perfume. Luxury perfumes are made of 100% natural ingredients and no chemicals. For example, for a single drop of pure perfume are used almost 200 roses, thing which clearly divides the category of perfumes.
Reporter: What does the Clive Christian perfume have and other luxury perfumes don’t?
Victoria Christian: Ten years ago, this perfumery was re launched, and then the worlds most expensive perfume was created under the mark of that period`s English company. In that time, perfumeries weren`t to daring, and no one had the courage to take over this task. But Clive Christian took a chance and became leader in the luxury perfume industry. At that time, perfumes weren`t so expensive, but they didn’t have such a large amount of scent either, and the budgets of the companies were used more to make the perfume popular instead of concentrating on the quality and design when creating a perfume.
Another thing that distinguishes our perfumes from others is the fact that this perfumery got its quality mark from Queen Victoria herself. A special and very rare flower was used to make this perfume,”the painter`s rose” or “the Grasse rose” which grows only in Grasse and blooms three weeks a year and for every drop of perfume are used 170 roses.
Reporter: What does the design of the bottle represent?
Victoria Christian: My father is a designer and nothing can have his signature if it doesn`t look good. Although the design of the bottle hasn`t known that many changes since the original in 1872. Both the color, dark green, and the top of the bottle, crown shaped date from that period. In fact, that’s the way the crown worn by Queen Victoria looked like the day she put her mark on the perfumery and green was used to protect the perfume from daylight.
Reporter:Why did you choose Romania?
Victoria Christian: This was my manager`s choice, which made some market research and discovered that Romania is a new and important market and with a great potential as far as luxury products are concerned. Well to this, my eight years friendship with Madeline played an important part, because she had always wanted to be the host of such an important event.
Reporter: How are you going to share around the world the 1000 bottles of perfume?
Victoria Christian: We haven`t decided yet. We brought here six bottles, and all of them have already sold. Because of the big number of orders, we might return with several bottles of perfume.
Reporter: Putting aside for a moment perfumes, how is it that you were first drawn to ballet?
Victoria Christian: In fact, my mother wanted me to become a great ballerina. I was drawn more to theater and musicals, but I ended up practising ballet. After spending years on Convent Garden stages and after the development of the perfumery. I have decided that it was about time to join the family business.
Victoria studied ballet and theater in London, acting on the scenes of West End until she joined the work of her father, who took the Crown Perfumery of London and decided to reinvent luxury perfumes.
