Makeup of 30’s – This decade represents the period of mysterious actresses, looking from underneath their batting eyelashes of mysterious beauty such of Greta Garbo.
Although the world was exhausted, frightened and the fascist period still made its presence felt along with the Great American Crisis of the last decade, the world of cinema flourished, and so did the movie stars. Their big expressiveness was given by their make up,which played an important part in the actresses` career. Big emphasis was laid on the eyes in that period, and make up simply intensified the mysterious air that surrounded the woman.
A characteristic of the period was the “heavy eyelid”, mysterious but luscious in the same time. The entire eye area is turned down, and the eye brows play a very important part. Brows have different hapes, arched, curved or flat. There is a single thing that never changes regarding eyebrows-the length bigger than the classic standard, respectively the outside corner of the eye. A strange but common thing that period was the complete shaving of the eyebrows and then drawing them with an eyeliner.
In modern make up, this technique is no longer used. A special eyebrow pencil is enough to give them contour, and, in the same time, strength. You can highlight them in order to create a lengthening effect. The eyes are simply fascinating, and this mirage is given by the eye shades and the tones used, usually smokey, creating the effect of so called “smokey eyes”. Using this type of make up, you will get a powerful effect.
In the `30s creamy eye shadows were much popular, and to give that glowy finish, vaseline was applied. So same textures must be chosen, especially now that in this autumn-winter season are a must.
The new formulas give special resistance to your make up. Cherry shaped mouth is another characteristic of that period. It has to be shorter than the natural contour, and the Cupid`s bow has to be marked
round or sharp. Lip color must be red, carmine, pink or dark red.
